The “Gerontology Network”, part of the academic-industrial activities of the IOG, is expected to serve as an internship-style collaborative research field. The first general meeting of 2014 was held on June 6th at Fukutake hall on the Hongo campus of the University of Tokyo, and there were about 40 participant companies. After a special lecture entitled “Kashiwa City: Town Development for a Long-Lived Society” by Mr. Takayoshi Umezawa of the Kashiwa City Health and Welfare department, each collaborative research team made presentations about their past activities and their plans for this year.
Students present at the meeting said “I was surprised to see many participants. I feel that there is a growing concern about super aging societies among corporations.” Students commented that they feel more able to conduct concrete, specific research by becoming involved with company representatives at these meetings.
